SBC was created on 1 February 1980 from the former government-owned Radio and Television of Singapore (RTS), which itself was founded on 9 August 1965. On 1 October 1994 SBC was privatized, becoming the Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS), Radio Corporation of Singapore (RCS) and Singapore Television Twelve (STV12).
